Poems

Desire runs strong
through Earth’s every vein
and there’s only one story…

— from “Switch,” the opening poem of ROOTED

ROOTED is a meditation on home and the author’s rootedness in her history, family, and geography. The chapbook begins and ends with poems examining the interwoven ferocity and generosity of Earth as our communal home. In between, ROOTED’s poems scrutinize—sometimes with sorrow, sometimes with anger, sometimes with celebration—women’s complicated ties to home and ultimately, humans’ place as only one animal among many on this blue planet.

Fiction

“One of the sailors who wheels the tea cart for the rich people asked me if I want a ride later, once the cakes are all gone (I say yes). Now that’s a Pleasure to look forward to. I can see there are many things that are Pleasures that I haven’t been seein that way, since they appear small in comparison to the Pains.”

from Chapter One, p. 11 of NELLIE

On the Liverpool docks in 1885, eleven-year-old Nellie says goodbye to her mother forever. She’s bound for Quebec, Canada on the SS Circassian, along with seventy-two other destitute “British Home Children.” A historical fiction chapbook, NELLIE: An Imagined History is written in the sharp, hopeful voice of Nellie as she crosses the Atlantic and takes her first steps in a land both harsh and wondrous.

SHORT STORY ANTHOLOGY FOR ORDER
AT THESE ONLINE BOOKSELLERS:

Editor: K.J. Denny

Forthcoming June, 2025 Tricia’s short story (fiction), “So Late in the Season,”
is included in a 2025 anthology published by Tidewater Press (New Westminster, BC, Canada).

Winding from sea to sea to sea, the Trans Canada Trail provides the setting for journeys
that range from the physical to the emotional and metaphorical.

During an uncommonly warm spell of autumn, a man navigates Dynamite Trail and his own identity;
a Bigfoot sighting on the Voyageur Trail is the spark that brings old friends together after twenty years apart;
a Japanese Canadian boy relocates to an alien prairie landscape from the confines of an internment camp;
a night at the movies in a small town in Newfoundland takes a near fatal turn  . . .

This collection, which includes a story from every province and territory,
is as varied and wide-ranging as the trails that cross mountain, prairie, river and forest.
