Tricia completed Artists Communities: A directory of residencies in the United States that offer time and space for creativity (Allworth Press, New York, NY; 2 editions: 1996 and 2000) when she was Executive Director of the Alliance of Artists’ Communities, a consortium of artists residency programs. Many thanks to artist residency staff–from MacDowell to Headlands Center for the Arts to the Academy of Berlin–who filled out long and demanding questionnaires in service to this book, which defined the field of artists communities.
Many artists supported the work. Poet Stanley Kunitz wrote the preface for the first edition, and writer/journalist Robert MacNeil wrote it for the second.
